Happiness and the Nurtured Entrepreneur
Dear Nurtured Entrepreneur,
I have a question for you to consider that might set off a dizzying domino-effect of brilliant ideas.
“What changes could I make in my entrepreneurial business life so that after they were made I could say to the people who love me, ‘I have never been happier in my life’?”
This question first surfaced when a friend told me a story about an executive who left her job, blackberry, multiple cell phones, and life as she’d known it to join a Buddhist community she’d been visiting for several years. This woman’s comment when interviewed was, ‘I’ve never been happier in my life.’
Most of you Nurtured Entrepreneurs made a parallel change in your work lives by leaving corporate employment and starting your own work-with-passion business. Where can you make changes that will add to your happiness and work satisfaction? I’ll give you a hint:
- Think about your day-to-day business dealings: working on projects, talking to clients, marketing, developing products, writing a blog.
- How do you know when you’re happy?
- What signals you that you’re in the zone?
- Write down what you’re doing when your happy signals show up. These are the activities and circumstances that you want to increase so that your creative entrepreneurship can flourish and your spirit thrive.
When I am really and truly happy in my entrepreneurial business, I find myself whistling a specific little tune. I don’t recognize it as a known melody so I don’t know where it came from, but it has been with me for many years and only pops up in the presence of true happiness. It comes from a place deep within when I am doing work that feels worthwhile and I know I am making a positive difference in my clients’ lives.
“The greatest gift that you could ever give to another is your own happiness, for when you are in a state of joy, happiness, or appreciation, you are fully connected to the stream of pure, positive Source Energy that is truly who you are.”
-Abraham-Hicks
Take a look and love yourself enough to ponder these questions. See how you can UP the happiness in your work-with-passion business by adding more of the work activities (and kinds of clients) that nurture you. After all, you started your company with a vision that made your heart sing. Is it still singing?
Until next time …
